How To Open & Edit Photoshop Files Without Photoshop
Earlier this week I needed to quickly edit a photoshop (PSD) file on site for a client, it was a basic change but I didn’t have my laptop on me – and worse still, my client didn’t have photoshop! Luckily for me, I knew about a free tool available for quick download; GIMP!
Despite the funny name, GIMP is one of the best free and open-source graphics editors available for image manipulation and image editing – the name is actually an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program.
To download GIMP, simply head over to their website download’s section and download the latest stable version.
When you open your photoshop (PSD) file, GIMP will ask you to import the image from a colour profile. Just use the default settings to convert your image and there you have it, you can now edit your photoshop file!
Using GIMP you can access and edit your image including all the layers! You can then export it in any format, do note however that GIMP may not preserve all text information or layer styles from photoshop files.
